Linda Marie Furiate’s Cervical Dystonia Encouragement Group

Hello to all my Friends with Cervical Dystonia,

Welcome to Spring. As we leap forward into the unknown of a brand-new cycle of life, I feel a sense of motivation to create the sameness for myself. This is a great time of year to re-examine our desires and develop a plan or strategy to allow for manifestation.

For myself, in terms of my cervical dystonia, this time of year, I often question my treatment plan for my neck and what is it that I may do to enhance and/or improve upon my current process.

The foundation of my on-going recovery with CD is my STEP program. This is something I practice daily and a modality I do not question for its effectiveness. I know it works for me.

Along with STEP, over the years I have incorporated massage, acupuncture, physical therapy and neurotoxins (Botox). All of which have helped on some levels yet are deemed unpredictable at times or have not been as effective.

What has also remained constant and effective over the years along with STEP is my daily meditation and yoga practice, proper nutrition and walking 3 to 5 miles a day. Another constant for me, is to not engage in oral medications that is often prescribed for dystonia.

As I move forward into 2026, I am inspired to seek tiny new ways to find relief from the pain and pulling associated with cervical dystonia. I am thankful my daily function is about 80% ‘normal’ depending on my activity. I feel there is always room for further improvement, so I am willing to put in the daily effort to find the relief.

I will keep you informed of my discovery.

For those who missed this last month, I was recently interviewed by George Ackerman at Together for Sharon. George’s mom, Sharon, who passed away a few years ago, struggled with Parkinson’s Disease and Dystonia. Here is a link to that interview which talks about my role as an advocate for dystonia.

As a final reminder, for any of you in the Fountain Valley, CA area, the NTSA is teaming up with the Parkinson’s Movement Disorder Foundation for their annual 5K run on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Click here to learn more and to register.

My next Encouragement group meeting will be on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm ET.  I will send a second announcement a day or two before the meeting with the Zoom link (it’s the same link each month).

The goal and purpose of my group is to offer hope, motivation and encouragement to support others as we seek to ease the physical and emotional burden of having to live with cervical dystonia.

I look forward to seeing you on April 15, 2026. There will also be a group meeting on May 20, 2026, before a break during the summer months (June, July, August), to then resume in September 2026.

Please email me anytime if you have any questions/comments or may need support. I look forward to seeing you.

Kindly,
Linda Marie

Hello Fellow Friend with Cervical Dystonia:

I have been living with cervical dystonia since 1995. Over the years I have learned a lot about myself. I have also learned much about healing the body, mind and ‘soul’. I am quite thankful to be able to share my thoughts and feelings about living with dystonia as posted on my blog. Cervical Dystonia | Creating Positive Addictions (wordpress.com).

There are many wonderful support groups to help those of us who live with cervical dystonia whether they be in person groups, online or forums such as Facebook. Most of these groups tend to focus on treatment options, and/or learning about the newest medications and surgical techniques to help ease symptoms. All of this is wonderful and necessary.

I am in the process of forming a new support group that is not affiliated with any of the dystonia organizations, medical facilities or medical personnel who treat dystonia. This new group will be more focused on Self. My intention is to focus more on the emotional and spiritual healing we may be in search of. The group will only be in live meeting form, so the space will be safe from online verbal confrontation. I imagine the group to be small.

The support group is geared more toward the open-minded and for those who wish to play a central role in their own healing (even when that includes the typical traditional medical modalities for cervical dystonia). In this support group everyone who attends will have a voice, in the hopes that all thoughts will be kind and considerate. The group will be non-scripted although the focus will be on emotional healing. My intention is to end each session with a sense of empowerment as we continue to move about our daily journey.

Topics of discussion will include, but not limited to philosophy for living, psychological aspects to include self-acceptance, astrology, and things like ‘what is the purpose of this (dystonia), and my/your life in general. My hope is that we all feel it is okay to look within to find a source to heal.

I am curious if there is a market or desire for this and if so, could you see yourself wanting to attend an online support group (Zoom) that may offer this type of support. Feel free to respond to this email with your thoughts (please be kind – I know this is not for everyone).

I came into this life of mine to heal – I find the best way to help me heal is to offer my knowledge and wisdom to help others heal. I feel that by sharing our kindhearted and insightful thoughts – we all win. I am proposing a Zoom time slot of around 6:30 pm ET (USA) on a Wednesday.

I look forward to the first gathering sometime in the spring of 2023. Please email me at lmfuriate@gmail.com to let me know if you might like to be a part of this group.

Look forward to your feedback. Again, be kind – I am a Libra 😊

Most sincerely,

Linda Furiate
